The Chief Officers for the York Fire Department  for 2007 are:  Chief: Alex Curry Jr. - Car 17; First Assistant Chief: Don Lubanski - 1701; and Second Assistant Chief: Jim Pierson - 1702.  In December 2006 the merger of the Retsof Hose Company and the York Volunteer Fire Department was completed.  The new name is the York Fire Department and the Apparatus, Chiefs, and Ambulances took the Retsof Numbers.  Presently York Fire Department operates out of two stations, one in Retsof at 3509 Retsof Road and one in York at 2667 York Road West.

A 2004 Pierce Dash 6 man cab with TAK 4 Suspension, Stainless Steel Body, 1500 gpm pump, 2500 gallon water tank, 25 gallon foam tank, 2500 port-a-tank, 490 hp Detroit Motor, Allison Automatic transmission, 1500 feet 5" LDH, 6 Suctions front, rear, and sides; 10" rear dump and two 8" side dumps, 6 pre-connects.  Purchased through the 2004 FEMA Grants. 

4000 gallon tank - 10" rear dump - two 3000 port-a-tanks - Refurbed by York Fire Department membership - 400 hp Cummins with Allison auto - When pump addition is completed (soon) it will be capable of dumping of both sides also or hooking directly to 5” supply at minimum 2500 gpm. 

On Monday, September 14, 2009, at the monthly meeting of the York Volunteer Fire Department, Livingston County Volunteer Firefighters Association President Don Tabor presented Bruce MacIntyre with its 50+ years of service award.  Mr. MacIntyre has served with the Y.F.D. for sixty-one years.  Story and Photo Provided by Jeffrey Arnold.

On Saturday April 25th. the York Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 1723 Macintyre Rd in the Town of York. First arriving fire units reported flames showing with a further update that most of the fire appeared to be on the outside wall of the structure. An aggressive attack was able to bring the fire under control, keeping most of the damage to the garage area. Departments responding with York were Caledonia, Avon, Cuylerville and Pavilion filling in at York.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.

On Tuesday December 9th. York Fire Department was dispatched to a possible Dryer fire at 1876 Linwood Rd North in the Town of York. While on route dispatch informed responding units that fire has spread into the living area of the home. First arriving fire units encountered a working fire. Departments assisting York were Pavilion, Bethany, Le Roy, Caledonia, Avon, Mumford, Cuylerville, Geneseo, Caledonia Ambulance, Livingston County Emergency Management and Livingston County Sheriff Department.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

The York Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported working structure fire at the Wadsworth Grille 3902 Main St the afternoon of November 23rd, 2008.  Car 1702 went on location with heavy smoke showing and confirmed a working fire.  Command requested 1 Pumper from Leicester, Cuylerville, Pavilion, and Caledonia to the scene.  Additional request were for Geneseo's Ladder truck and Mt. Morris's Rescue Truck to the scene.  Ambulances from York, Geneseo, Caledonia, Mt. Morris and Cuylerville assisted with rehab with ALS from Livingston County.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Caledonia also provided a fill for York, Mt. Morris provided a fill in for Leicester, and Avon filled in for Caledonia. 

On Sunday August 24th., The York Fire Department conducted a controlled burn at 2240 Dow Rd in the Town of York.  An old barn complex  was the object of the drill.  A supply line of LDH hose was laid from a pond to the fire ground and a tanker shuttle was set up to be filled at the York fire hall.   Departments participating in the drill with York were Caledonia, Leicester, Cuylerville and Pavilion.   Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

Thursday afternoon York Fire Dept. Ambulance was involved in a MVA at the intersection of Telephone Road (Rt. 20) and South Street Road in the Town of Pavilion.  The ambulance was responding in Emergency Mode with lights and siren activated when the accident happened.  York 845 was T-Boned on the passenger side of the ambulance. The Ambulance Driver was uninjured, the EMT suffered a broken nose, and the ALS Tech has a spinal injury.  Andy Klein from Caledonia Ambulance Medic 77 was the ALS Tech.  He is recovering at Strong Memorial Hospital and would welcome any and all visitors.  No information available on the patient or the driver of the other vehicle involved.  The driver of the other vehicle ran a stop sign, hit the ambulance, and then the ambulance went off the road and rolled over one time down a 20 foot embankment, landing on its wheels. On Monday, September 3rd, The York Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a Barn Fire at 2063 Casey Rd in the Town of York. First arriving fire units encountered heavy smoke conditions and requested one pumper and manpower from Caledonia.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

On Sunday, June 10th., The York Fire Department conducted a live burn exercise at 3501 Retsof Rd in the Town of York. The object of the drill was an old house that was being removed to make room for a new one. Engine 173 set up a draft at the creek next to the treatment plant and Engine 175 laid 800' of LDH supply line down the side of the road to the fire building. Master streams and hand lines were set up to protect exposures. Engine 174 was standing by a hydrant with lines laid but not charged. Leicester Fire Department had two Engines on standby at the scene and there man power assisted during the exercise.  Story and photos provided by Jay Lynch.

The York Fire Department And Ambulance along with Livingston County ALS were dispatched to a reported 1 car roll over MVA on Chandler Road near Genesee Street (Rt 63) the morning of Tuesday, March 6th, 2007.  Car 1702 went on location with a 1 car roll over MVA with a subject trapped.  York Ambulance with ALS transported one patient to an area hospital.  Investigating the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

The York Fire Department and Geneseo Ambulance were dispatched to a reported MVA at the same times as the School Bus MVA, Monday March 5th, 2007 near the intersection of Genesee St. (Rt 63.) and Federal Road.  Assisting at the scene was NY State Police, and Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

The York Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported car vs. school bus MVA the afternoon of Monday March 5th, 2007 near the intersection of Main St. (Rt 36.) and Retsof Road.  Assisting at the scene was Livingston County ALS, NY State Police, and Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

Chief John Morgan, Asst. Chief Alex Curry Jr., along with other members of the York Fire Department traveled to Connecticut on Friday, February 23rd, 2007 to inspect a used Rescue Truck that had been listed on FireTec for sale.  The delegation returned Friday evening with the truck.  York's new to them rescue truck is a 1982 Pierce on a Ford F750 Chassis. York over the next few weeks will be putting the truck in service.  Pictures will be posted as soon as we get them.

The York Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a two tractor trailer MVA on Genesee St (Rt.63) at the Wyoming County Line early Friday morning, February 23rd, 2007.  York Command went on location with a tractor trailer vs a dump truck with a trailer at the Wyoming County Line, just into Livingston County.  York EMS requested ALS, which was started out of Monroe County.  York Ambulance transported both operators to area hospitals.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Assisting with traffic control was the New York State Police, Wyoming County Sheriff's Office and the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.  Pictures taken by Tom McGory and provided by Tom Pearson.

MVA - York ~ Retsof - Wednesday   September 21st, 2005

The York and Retsof Fire Departments and Ambulances along with Caledonia ALS Medic 77 were dispatched to a reported car vs tractor trailer MVA at the intersection of York Road West and Main St York the morning of Wednesday September 21st at approximately 7:30am.  York Car 15 went on location with 3 injuries and requested Mercy Flight to be launched and additional ambulances.  Mercy Flight and both of Caledonia's ambulances transported patients to area hospitals.  Geneseo Ambulance stood by for York and Retsof while they were at the scene and cleaned up from the accident.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Assisting at the scene was the New York State Police.

Barn Fire - York ~ Restof - Sunday - April 30th, 2006

On Sunday April 30th the York and Retsof Fire Departments and ambulances were dispatched to a reported barn fire on York Landing Rd in the Town of York. Due to the narrow dead end road a LDH supply line was laid approximately 800'. First truck in encountered  heavy fire and a power line down across the road. Departments assisting York and Retsof were: East Avon, Caledonia Cuylerville Leicester and Pavilion.  Assisting at the scene was the New York State Police and Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.  Story and photos provided by Jay M. MVA - Retsof ~ York - Thursday   January 12th, 2006

The York and Retsof Fire Departments and Ambulances along with Caledonia ALS Medic 77 were dispatched to a reported MVA on US Rt. 20 at State Rt. 36 on Thursday afternoon, January 12th, 2006 at approximately 12:15pm.  Responding units reported a head on MVA with multiple patients, some critical.  Ambulances from Caledonia, LeRoy, Avon, Geneseo, and Cuylerville were requested to the scene.  ALS Units from Avon, Caledonia, Livingston County EMS, and LeRoy were requested to scene.  Mercy Flight was launched, however was canceled while enroute to the Landing Zone.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Assisting at the scene was the New York State Police.

MVA - Retsof ~ York - Wednesday January 11th, 2006

The Retsof & York Fire Departments and Ambulances along with Livingston County EMS ALS Medic 79 were dispatched to a reported car pedestrian MVA on Rt. 63 in front of the York Central School on Wednesday evening January 11th, 2006 at approximately 8:45pm.  Responding personal reported a the patient to be DOA.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the New York State Police and the Livingston County Corners Office.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.   

Field Fire - York - Sunday - November 13th, 2005

The York and Retsof Fire Departments and Ambulances were dispatched to a reported field fire on Telephone Rd in the area of Federal Rd. on Sun. November 13th, 2005 at approximately 9:50am.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

Motor Vehicle Accident - York - Friday  November 11th, 2005

The York and Retsof Fire Departments and Ambulances were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Friday November 11th, 2005 at approximately 3:45pm in the area of the 2600 Block of Main Street York.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

Lightening Strike - York - Wednesday November 9th, 2005

The York and Retsof Fire Departments and Ambulances were dispatched to a reported house struck by lightening on Wednesday November 9th, 2005 at approximately 12:45pm.

Structure Fire - York ~ Retsof  Wednesday - September 28th, 2005

The York and Retsof Fire Departments and Ambulances were dispatched to a reported house fire on MacIntryre Road in the Town of York, Hamlet of Fowlerville on Wednesday afternoon, September 28th, 2005.  Car 17 went on location with smoke and flames showing from a structure.  Mutual Aid was requested from: Caledonia, Leicester, East Avon, Avon, Cuylerville, Mt. Morris Fire Departments and Caledonia ALS Medic 77.   Assisting at the residents scene was the Northern Livingston County Chapter of the American Red Cross.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police.  Photo's provided by Ron & Jeff Faugh and Michael Johnson from the Livingston County News.

House Fire AND Barn Fire - York  Wednesday - September 22nd, 2004

The York and Retsof Fire Departments and Ambulances were dispatched to a reported house fire at 3281 Flats Road in the Hamlet of Piffard on Wednesday morning, September 22nd 2004 at approximately 4:00am.  Car 17 went on location and reported a working fire.  The Geneseo Fire Department was requested to the scene and Leicester Fire Department was requested for a fill in in Retsof.  Shortly after arriving, Leicester was requested to the scene and Cuylerville was dispatched for the Fill in.  While Responding to the Fill In, The Cuylerville Fire Department was re-routed, the York & Retsof Fire Department were paged to advised, and the Caledonia Fire Department was dispatched Mutual Assistance, to a reported Barn Fire on McVean Road in the Town of York.  Caledonia 1101 went on location with smoke and flames showing.  York Car 15 responded to this scene and assumed command.  Caledonia Fire Department and Cuylerville Fire Department quickly had this fire knocked down and under control.  The cause of both fires is being investigated by the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.  Assisting at the scene of the Flats Road Fire was: The Geneseo Fire Department, Leicester Fire Department, the Pavilion Fire Department, the Mt. Morris Fire Department and the American Red Cross.  Fill ins were:  Perry Center Fire Department to Retsof,  The Pavilion Fire Department in York, LeRoy Fire Department and Mumford Fire Department in Caledonia, Perry Fire Department in Leicester, and Lakeville Fire Department & Livonia Fire Department in Geneseo.  Assisting at both scenes was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Pictures of the Flats Road fire provided by David Parish, American Red Cross.

Garage Fire - York ~ Retsof  Wednesday August 4, 2004

The York and Retsof Fire Departments and Ambulances were dispatched to a reported Structure Fire on Genesee St. (Rt. 63) during the early morning hours of Wednesday August 4th, 2004.  Car 17 went on location with a 2 car, non attached, garage fully involved with and exposure problem.  The Leicester Fire Department was requested to the scene and the Cuylerville Fire Department filled in for Retsof.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.

MVA - Retsof ~ York - Friday - April 2nd, 2004

The Retsof and York Fire Departments, Ambulances, and ALS Medic 77 were dispatched to a reported 2 car motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Route 63 and Retsof Road on Friday afternoon April 2nd.  ALS Medic 52 from Henrietta Volunteer Ambulance responded as an additional ALS unit.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the New York State Police.
