The Chief Officers for the York Fire Department for 2007 are: Chief: Alex Curry Jr. - Car 17; First Assistant Chief: Don Lubanski - 1701; and Second Assistant Chief: Jim Pierson - 1702. In December 2006 the merger of the Retsof Hose Company and the York Volunteer Fire Department was completed. The new name is the York Fire Department and the Apparatus, Chiefs, and Ambulances took the Retsof Numbers. Presently York Fire Department operates out of two stations, one in Retsof at 3509 Retsof Road and one in York at 2667 York Road West. |

Structure Fire - York - Saturday - April 25th,
2009 On Saturday April 25th. the York Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 1723 Macintyre Rd in the Town of York. First arriving fire units reported flames showing with a further update that most of the fire appeared to be on the outside wall of the structure. An aggressive attack was able to bring the fire under control, keeping most of the damage to the garage area. Structure Fire - York - Tuesday - December 9th,
2008 On Tuesday December 9th. York Fire Department was dispatched to a possible Dryer fire at 1876 Linwood Rd North in the Town of York. While on route dispatch informed responding units that fire has spread into the living area of the home. First arriving fire units encountered a working fire. Departments assisting York were Pavilion, Bethany, Le Roy, Caledonia, Avon, Mumford, Cuylerville, Geneseo, Caledonia Ambulance, Livingston County Emergency Management and Livingston County Sheriff Department. Structure Fire - York - Sunday - November 23rd,
2008 The York Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported working structure fire at the Wadsworth Grille 3902 Main St the afternoon of November 23rd, 2008. Car 1702 went on location with heavy smoke showing and confirmed a working fire. Command requested 1 Pumper from Leicester, Cuylerville, Pavilion, and Caledonia to the scene. Additional request were for Geneseo's Ladder truck and Mt. Morris's Rescue Truck to the scene. Ambulances from York, Geneseo, Caledonia, Mt. Morris and Cuylerville assisted with rehab with ALS from Livingston County. Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management. Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. Caledonia also provided a fill for York, Mt. Morris provided a fill in for Leicester, and Avon filled in for Caledonia. |

SCBA Drill - York - Saturday - September 27th, 2008 Saturday September 27th. The York Fire Department under the direction of Chief Alex Curry Jr. hosted a morning training session at an old home at 1840 Craig Rd in the Town of York. Five stations were set up to keep the firefighters busy. Station No.1 was a burn room, Station No.2 was 2nd floor search and rescue, Station No3. was Ventilation and ladder work, Station No.4 was for back up lines and Station No.5 for rehab. Burn Drill - York - Sunday - August 24th, 2008 On Sunday August 24th., The York Fire Department conducted a controlled burn at 2240 Dow Rd in the Town of York. An old barn complex was the object of the drill. A supply line of LDH hose was laid from a pond to the fire ground and a tanker shuttle was set up to be filled at the York fire hall. Pavilion - York Ambulance Involved in MVA - Thursday-
January 3rd, 2008 Thursday afternoon York Fire Dept. Ambulance was involved in a MVA at the intersection of Telephone Road (Rt. 20) and South Street Road in the Town of Pavilion. The ambulance was responding in Emergency Mode with lights and siren activated when the accident happened. York 845 was T-Boned on the passenger side of the ambulance. The Ambulance Driver was uninjured, the EMT suffered a broken nose, and the ALS Tech has a spinal injury. Andy Klein from Caledonia Ambulance Medic 77 was the ALS Tech. He is recovering at Strong Memorial Hospital and would welcome any and all visitors. No information available on the patient or the driver of the other vehicle involved. The driver of the other vehicle ran a stop sign, hit the ambulance, and then the ambulance went off the road and rolled over one time down a 20 foot embankment, landing on its wheels. Photos have been provided, pictures of where the accident happened and of York 845. Thank you to John Morgan for the updated information on the accident. Controlled Burn - York - Sunday - June 10th, 2007 On Sunday, June 10th., The York Fire Department conducted a live burn exercise at 3501 Retsof Rd in the Town of York. The object of the drill was an old house that was being removed to make room for a new one. Engine 173 set up a draft at the creek next to the treatment plant and Engine 175 laid 800' of LDH supply line down the side of the road to the fire building. Master streams and hand lines were set up to protect exposures. Engine 174 was standing by a hydrant with lines laid but not charged. New Rescue Truck - York - Friday - February 23rd,
2007 Chief John Morgan, Asst. Chief Alex Curry Jr., along with other members of the York Fire Department traveled to Connecticut on Friday, February 23rd, 2007 to inspect a used Rescue Truck that had been listed on FireTec for sale. The delegation returned Friday evening with the truck. York's new to them rescue truck is a 1982 Pierce on a Ford F750 Chassis. York over the next few weeks will be putting the truck in service. MVA - York - Friday - February 23rd, 2007 The York Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a two tractor trailer MVA on Genesee St (Rt.63) at the Wyoming County Line early Friday morning, February 23rd, 2007. York Command went on location with a tractor trailer vs a dump truck with a trailer at the Wyoming County Line, just into Livingston County. York EMS requested ALS, which was started out of Monroe County. York Ambulance transported both operators to area hospitals. Investigating the cause of the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. York Car 15 went on location with 3 injuries and requested Mercy Flight to be launched and additional ambulances. Mercy Flight and both of Caledonia's ambulances transported patients to area hospitals. Geneseo Ambulance stood by for York and Retsof while they were at the scene and cleaned up from the accident. Investigating the cause of the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. Assisting at the scene was the New York State Police. |

Due to the narrow dead end road a LDH supply line was laid approximately 800'. First truck in encountered heavy fire and a power line down across the road. MVA - Retsof ~ York - Thursday January 12th, 2006 The York and Retsof Fire Departments and Ambulances along with Caledonia ALS Medic 77 were dispatched to a reported MVA on US Rt. 20 at State Rt. 36 on Thursday afternoon, January 12th, 2006 at approximately 12:15pm. Responding units reported a head on MVA with multiple patients, some critical. Ambulances from Caledonia, LeRoy, Avon, Geneseo, and Cuylerville were requested to the scene. ALS Units from Avon, Caledonia, Livingston County EMS, and LeRoy were requested to scene. Mercy Flight was launched, however was canceled while enroute to the Landing Zone. House Fire AND Barn Fire - York Wednesday - September 22nd, 2004 The York and Retsof Fire Departments and Ambulances were dispatched to a reported house fire at 3281 Flats Road in the Hamlet of Piffard on Wednesday morning, September 22nd 2004 at approximately 4:00am. Car 17 went on location and reported a working fire. The Geneseo Fire Department was requested to the scene and Leicester Fire Department was requested for a fill in in Retsof. Shortly after arriving, Leicester was requested to the scene and Cuylerville was dispatched for the Fill in. While Responding to the Fill In, The Cuylerville Fire Department was re-routed, the York & Retsof Fire Department were paged to advised, and the Caledonia Fire Department was dispatched Mutual Assistance, to a reported Barn Fire on McVean Road in the Town of York. Caledonia 1101 went on location with smoke and flames showing. York Car 15 responded to this scene and assumed command. Caledonia Fire Department and Cuylerville Fire Department quickly had this fire knocked down and under control. The cause of both fires is being investigated by the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management. Assisting at the scene of the Flats Road Fire was: The Geneseo Fire Department, Leicester Fire Department, the Pavilion Fire Department, the Mt. Morris Fire Department and the American Red Cross. Fill ins were: Perry Center Fire Department to Retsof, The Pavilion Fire Department in York, LeRoy Fire Department and Mumford Fire Department in Caledonia, Perry Fire Department in Leicester, and Lakeville Fire Department & Livonia Fire Department in Geneseo.
