House Fire - Lima - Thursday - October 28th, 2010

On Thursday October 28th., at 9:14 AM, Lima Fire Department was dispatched for a house fire at 7368 Evergreen St in the Village of Lima. Lima Engine 235 went on location and reported flames from the roof area of the home.  A Culligan water delivery man driving by the residence turned in the alarm and attempted to notify any occupants that may be in the home.  The home owner was over come by the situation and had to be treated by Lima EMS and a firefighter sustained an injury.  The fire is under investigation by Livingston County Emergency Management and the Livingston County Sheriff office.  Departments responding to the fire or on Standby were: Lima, East Avon, Honeoye Falls, Livonia, Rush, Mendon, Caledonia, West Bloomfield, Lima EMS and Honeoye Falls Mendon EMS.  Story provided by Jay Lynch.

 
Bruce MacIntrye  ~ October 26th, 2010

It is with deep regret and great sympathy that we report the passing of Bruce MacIntrye from York.  Bruce was a 50+ year member of the York Fire Department, having served almost every office in the York Fire Department, including 2 different terms as Chief.   Bruce was a retired Livingston County Deputy Sheriff.

 
Fay Ace  ~ October 18th, 2010

It is with deep regret and great sympathy that we report the passing of Fay Ace from West Sparta.  Fay was a long time member of the West Sparta Fire Department and previously had belonged to the Nunda Fire Department. 

 
Eugene "Poochie" Leone ~ October 7th, 2010

It is with deep regret and great sympathy that we report the passing of Poochie Leone from Mt. Morris.  Poochie was a long time member of the Cuylerville Fire Department, having achieved the rank of Assistant Chief.   Poochie had also belonged to the Mt. Morris Fire Department.  Poochie will be greatly missed by all who knew him!

House Fire - Geneseo - Wednesday - September 22nd, 2010

The Geneseo Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported possible house fire on Lakeville Groveland Road on Wednesday September 22nd, 2010 at approximately 7:40am.  The dispatch reported an order of wires burning and the smoke detectors activated.  Livingston County Sheriff's Car 150 was the first to arrive and reported nothing showing.  Later updated to smoke in the basement.  Car 3101 went on location and confirmed a fire in the basement.  Command requested a Pumper from Lakeville and Livonia to the scene with interior firefighters.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.

 
Structure Fire - York - Monday - September 20th, 2010

On Monday, September 21st., at 12:31 PM, York Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 2905 Simpson road in the Town of York, at Caledonia Diesel. Heavy smoke was showing from the commercial structure when the first fire units arrived on the scene.  Apparently employees tried to put the fire out with fire extinguishers when the fire spread into a wall and up into a store room then to the roof area.  Two firefighters sustained injuries. One was transported to an area hospital with a minor back injury and the other a cut to a finger and was treated at the scene.  Departments responding to the fire with York or to cover empty firehouses were: Caledonia, Leicester, Cuylerville, Avon, East Avon, Geneseo, Mount Morris, Livonia, Pavilion, LeRoy, Bethany, Mumford, Perry, Wyoming, Geneseo EMS, Avon EMS, Caledonia EMS, Livingston County Sheriff Department and Livingston County Emergency Management.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.   York Fire Department Photo Gallery.

 
Haz Mat Drill - West Sparta - Wednesday - September 15th, 2010

West Sparta Fire Department and the Livingston County Hazardous Materials Response Team Drilled together on Wednesday night at the West Sparta Fire station. House Trailer Fire - East Avon - Thursday - September 2nd, 2010

House Fire - Canadice - Wednesday - September 1st, 2010

The Springwater Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported house fire in their district on Old Bald Hill Road, Town of Canadice, the afternoon of Wednesday September 1st, 2010.  Springwater Command reported a working fire and requested several departments from Livingston, Ontario, and Steuben Counties to the scene.  If anyone has pictures, please send them so we can post them here.

Controlled Burn - Alexander - Sunday - June 6th, 2010

On Sunday June 6th the Alexander Fire Department hosted live fire interior firefighting in an old house on Sandpit
Road. in the Town of Alexander.  Departments from Genesee and Wyoming County's participated in the mornings
activities with  the burning of the structure at the end to make room for new construction.  Story and Photos by

House Fire - Leicester - Tuesday - May 25th, 2010

On Tuesday May 25th, 2010 the Leicester Fire Department and Cuylerville Ambulance were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 135 Main Street in the Village of Leicester.  Fire units encountered a working fire in a two storied frame house with a metal roof.  The Genesee & Wyoming Railroad was contacted to suspend all rail traffic through the Village of Leicester due to the LDH supply line laid across their railroad tracks.  Due to the temperature, hovering around 90, and the time of day, extra manpower was needed to bring the fire under control.  Departments responding with Leicester were: Cuylerville, York, Mt. Morris, Nunda, Geneseo, Caledonia, East Avon, Perry, Perry Center, Pavilion, Livingston County EMS, Mt. House Fire - East Avon - Saturday - May 22nd, 2010

On Saturday May 22nd, 2010 the East Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance were dispatched to a possible structure fire at 5847 Sutton Road in the Town of Avon.  While en route the possibility that one of the occupants were trapped was transmitted.  First arriving fire units encountered a working house fire with all occupants of the house accounted for.  The family dog alerted everyone of the fire but was unaccounted for at this time.  A female occupant had to jump out of a second story window to escape the fire.  She had been cut off by the advancing smoke and flames.  Departments assisting East Avon were: Avon, Lakeville, Caledonia, Lima, Lima Ambulance, Livonia EMS, and Geneseo EMS.  Assisting at the Scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.  East Avon Fire Department Photo Gallery.

 
Garage Fire - Dansville - Monday - May 17th, 2010

At 10:18 Am, Monday May 17, the Dansville FD was dispatched to a report of a working garage fire behind 150 Main St. The garage turned out to be a 2 story metal barn with a truss roof. Past Chief Kevin Quinlan - Avon Fire Department - Monday April 12th, 2010

It is with great sadness that the Wm VanZandt Hose Company and the Avon Fire Department announces the passing of Past Chief Kevin Quinlan on Monday April 12th, 2010.  Chief Quinlan has been a member of the Wm VanZandt Hose Company and the Avon Fire Department for over 50 years.  Calling hours for Chief Quinlan will be Thursday April 15th, 2010 from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at the Kevin Dougherty Funeral Home on Big Tree Street in the Village of Livonia.  Funeral Services will be held on Friday April 16th at St. Matthews on Rt. 20A in the Town of Livonia at 11am.  Attending Fire Personal are requested to wear Class A uniforms.

 
Brush Fire / Barn Fire - Mt. Morris - Sunday - April 4th, 2010

The Mt. Morris Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported Brush Fire at 7996 River Road the afternoon of Sunday April 4th, 2010.  While responding Mt. Morris Car 41 was advised that there was now a Barn Fire at the same location.  Mutual Aid was requested from several Livingston and Wyoming County Fire Departments.  Investigating the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. 

 
MVA - Portage - Sunday - April 4th, 2010

The Nunda Fire Department and Ambulance along with Livingston County ALS were dispatched to a reported MVA with injuries on Short Tract Road near Williams Road in the Town of Portage the afternoon of Sunday April 4th.  Arriving units found a 2 car MVA with 3 Serious patients and 1 patient that needed to be checked out.  Two of the serious patients were transported by Mercy Flight and 1 serious patient was transported by Nunda Ambulance to Strong Memorial Hospital.  The 4th patient was not transported.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

 
House Fire - Sparta - Saturday - April 3rd, 2010

The Sparta Fire Department and Dansville Ambulance were dispatched to a reported house fire at 7410 Reeds Corners Road the afternoon of Saturday April 3rd, 2010.  Mutual aid to the scene was received from Groveland Fire Department, Springwater Fire Department, Wayland Fire Department, Dansville Fire Department, and Conesus Fire Department.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Pictures provided by Jeffrey Arnold.  Photos in the  Sparta Fire Department Photo Gallery.

 Update - New Pumper  - Lima - April 2nd, 2010

Lima's new 2010 Pierce Sabre PUC Pumper has arrived in Lima, before going to Churchville for delivery prep.  The new pumper has seating for 6, it has a 1250 gpm pump, 1000 gal. water tank, a 30 gal. foam tank, and custom front bumper to hold Lima's Amkus Rescue Tools.  Pictures provided by Jeffrey Arnold.  Photos in the  New Deliveries Photo Gallery. 

 
Brush Fire - Dansville - Friday - April 2nd, 2010

Several area fire departments assisted the Dansville Fire Department with a large brush and field fire on Depot Road the afternoon of Friday April 2nd, 2010.  Departments from Livingston, and Steuben Counties assisted.

MVA - East Avon - Monday - March 29th, 2010

The East Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance with ALS were dispatched to a reported head on 2 car MVA on Rts 5 & 20 near Jenks Road the evening of Monday March 29th, 2010.  East Avon 2702 went on location with a 2 car head MVA.  Avon's second Ambulance and an additional ALS Unit from Henrietta also responded.  Photos provided by Jeff Faugh.  Photos in the East Avon Fire Department Photo Gallery.

 

New Quint for Livonia - Sunday - March 29th, 2010

The Livonia Fire Department after waiting for a few months received their "new" Quint on Sunday March 29th, 2010.  Livonia purchased the Pierce Quint from Pearl River Hook & Ladder from Rockland County, New York.  Pictures provided by Tammy Wilson.  Photos in the  New Deliveries Photo Gallery. 

 
House Fire - Mt. Morris - Saturday - March 27th, 2010

The morning of Saturday March 27th, 2010, the Mt. Morris Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 24 Genesee Street.  Assisting at the scene were Nunda Fire Department, Cuylerville Fire Department, Leicester Fire Department, and Geneseo Fire Department assisted at the scene.  The Groveland Fire Department stood by for Mt. Morris Fire Department.  The Livingston County Office of Emergency Management was on location.  Assisting at the scene was the Mt. Structure Fire - Pavilion - Friday - March 26th, 2010

On Friday March 26th. Pavilion Fire Department was dispatched for an unknown type fire at Hansen Aggregates on Route 63 in the Town of Pavilion. First arriving fire unites encountered a working fire in a 70 x 20 structure. Due to the great distance off the road a 1200' lay of LDH hose was required to get water to the fire ground. Barn Fire - Honeoye - Wednesday - March 24th, 2010

The Honeoye Fire Department was dispatched to a reported barn fire at 4668 Simmons Road just after midnight on Wednesday morning, March 24th, 2010.  Assistance from Livingston County was a Tanker from Hemlock and Tankers from Livonia and an Ambulance from Livonia to the scene.  Hemlock also provided a stand by at Honeoye Fire Station.  Once knocked down, Livonia also provided a stand by crew for Honeoye.  Pictures provided by Jeffrey Arnold.  Photos in the Ontario County Honeoye Fire Department Photo Gallery. 

 
Brush Fire - Honeoye - Sunday - March 21st, 2010

On Sunday afternoon, March 21, Honeoye/Richmond and Bristol firefighters were dispatched to a reported barn fire at 4330 Reed Road.  While en route, Fire Chief Rick Frost requested tankers and additional manpower from Hemlock and Livonia fire departments.  Responding units arrived on location, found a brush fire burning behind the barn and that the structure itself was not involved.  The fire was brought quickly under control by the Honeoye and Bristol firefighters, Hemlock and Livonia were placed back in service.  There were no injuries.  Story and Photos provided by Jeffrey Arnold.  Photos in the Ontario County Honeoye Fire Department Photo Gallery. 

 
Donations Requested - Needy Fire Department in Tennessee

Assistant Chief Gary Morrison from the Mt. Morris Fire Department reports that Caiton Chapel Volunteer Fire Department in Tennesee has received East Avon Volunteer Fire Departments old Engine 276.  This is the third department to use Engine 276 since it was deemed surplus by East Avon.  Once in service  Engine 276 will be the first out truck for Caiton Chapel.  Engine 276 is a 1976 Pierce Suburban 750 tank and 750 gpm pump on a Ford F750 chassis.  Caition Chapel Volunteer Fire Department is in need of any surplus equipment that you could spare and their operating budget does not afford them modern firefighting equipment.  If you have anything that might help Caiton Chapel, please contact Gary Morrison from Mt. Morris.

 
Benefit Dinner - for Donna Pratt & Family - Conesus

The Conesus Fire Department is having a benefit dinner for Donna Pratt & Family.  Donna is a firefighter with the Conesus Fire Department and her husband is in the U.S. Army.  Her husband recently had a major heart attack and the family is in need of assistance.  The entire Pratt family has supported Emergency Services throughout Livingston County.  Family Members are members of the Livonia Ambulance, the Livonia Fire Department, and the Conesus Fire Department.  Their will be a Roast Beef Dinner held at the Conlon Mulvaney American Legion Post, Marshall Road Conesus, on March 31st, 2010 from 4:30pm till 8:00pm.  The cost of the dinner is a Donation to the Pratt Family.  Any and all support from the Pratt Family is greatly appreciated.

 
Brush Fire - Leicester - Wednesday - March 17th, 2010

Wednesday March 17th., Cuylerville and Leicester Fire Departments were called out for a fire in the cattails on River Rd between Perry Rd and the Railroad overpass in the Town of Leicester. Structure Fire - Caledonia - Wednesday - March 17th, 2010

On Wednesday March 17th. Caledonia Fire and EMS were dispatched to 1034 Leicester Rd in the Town of Caledonia for a report of a kitchen fire. First arriving fire unites reported smoke showing, with a later update of a kitchen fire with extension into the cabinet area. An aggressive interior attack was able to knock the fire down, holding most of the fire damage to the kitchen area of the home. Car & Garage Fire - Avon - Wednesday - March 17th, 2010

The Avon Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported car fire at 43 Bronson Ave the early morning of March 17th, 2010.  Car 22 went on location with a work car and garage fire.  East Avon was requested for 1 pumper to the scene.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management and the Avon Village Police.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

 
Car Fire - Geneseo - Sunday - March 14th, 2010

On Sunday afternoon, March 14, Geneseo Fire and EMS responded to a car fire on the southbound Exit 8 ramp of I-390. Firefighters arrived on location and found the engine compartment of the vehicle fully-involved. The fire was quickly knocked down. FEMA Grant  - Avon - Friday - March 5th, 2010

FEMA announced round 5 of the Firefighter Assistance Grants on Friday March 5th, 2010.  The Village of Avon Fire Department was awarded a $79,800 Grant for Personal Protective Equipment.

 
Structure Fire  - Mt. Morris - Friday - March 5, 2010

The Mt. Morris Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported structure fire, fire in the ceiling at the Mt. Morris Village DPW, 32 Mill Street, the afternoon of Friday March 5th, 2010.  Mt. Morris Command requested Leicester Fire Department to the scene, but were re-routed to fill in for Mt. Morris while enroute.  The Mt. Morris Village Police assisted at the scene.  The fire is being investigated by the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.

Structure Fire  - Mt. Morris - Wednesday - February 17th, 2010

On Wednesday February 17th,  Mount Morris Fire and EMS were dispatched for a possible structure fire at the Bellamy Hill Apartments on Columbus Avenue in the Village of Mount Morris. Car 4102 went on location with nothing showing but after further investigation a working fire was declared. Structure Fire  - Geneseo - Tuesday - February 16th, 2010

On Tuesday February 16, Geneseo Fire and EMS were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 33 North St in the Village of Geneseo. First arriving fire units encountered a working fire. An aggressive interior attack held fire damage to the room of origin with smoke throughout the apartment. Snowmobile Fire - Livonia - Thursday - February 11th, 2010

On Thursday afternoon, February 11, Livonia firefighters were dispatched to a reported snowmobile on fire on Conesus Lake, just south of Camp Stella Maris. Assistant Fire Chief Dan Miller arrived on location and reported the snowmobile was fully-involved . The fire was quickly extinguished. MVA - Dansville - Saturday - February 6th, 2010

The Dansville Fire Department and Ambulance along with Livingston County ALS were dispatched to a 1 vehicle MVA with injury on Sahrles Road on Saturday morning February 6th, 2010 at approximately 2:00am.  The fire department went on location reporting a vehicle into an embankment, 3 patients, 1 being a medical 500.  Dansville Ambulance transported the patients to an area hospital.  The Medical 500 was unfortunately pronounced deceased after arriving at the hospital.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Assisting at the scene was the New York State Police and the Livingston County Corners Office.

Structure Fire - Springwater - Friday - January 29th, 2010

The Springwater Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched for a reported structure fire at 7873 North Main Street the afternoon of Friday January 29th, 2010.  Car 54 went on location with a working fire.  Several area fire departments battle the blaze for several hours in near zero degree weather.  Mutual aid to the scene included:  Wayland Fire Department, Perkinsville Fire Department, Sparta Fire Department, Hemlock Fire Department, Dansville Fire Department, Conesus Fire Department, and Livonia Ambulance.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.  Assisting at the scene was the New York State Police, the Livingston County Sheriff's Office, and the American Red Cross.  If anyone has pictures of either of the fires in Springwater, please email them to the Web Master.

The Springwater Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched for a reported structure fire on Carney Hollow Road in the area of Pokey Moonshine Road the afternoon of Thursday January 28th, 2010.  Mutual Aid to the scene was Wayland Fire Department, Perkinsville Fire Department, and Hemlock Fire Department.  Investigating the cause of the Fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.  Assisting at the scene was the New York State Police.

 
House Fire - Bethany - Tuesday - January 26th, 2010

On Tuesday, January 26th., Bethany  Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire at 5823 East Bethany Le Roy Rd in the Town of Bethany. First arriving fire units encountered heavy smoke and flames from the back of the house with two exposures in close proximity. Departments assisting Bethany were Alexander, Pavilion, LeRoy, Stafford, City of Batavia, Town of Batavia, Bergen, Wyoming, Genesee Co. Emergency Management, and Genesee Co. MVA - Geneseo - Friday - January 22nd, 2010

The Geneseo Fire Department and Ambulance along with Livingston County ALS were dispatched to a reported vehicle into the river at the bottom of Dewey Hill at the Geneseo / Leicester Town Line.  Arriving Sheriff's Deputies confirmed that a witness saw a vehicle drive into the river.  Geneseo Fire Department deployed their boat.  Additional resources that were requested to the seen were:  Jimmy's Sales and Service (from Leicester) for their heavy wrecker, Livonia Fire Department and Lakeville Fire Department Boats, and divers from the Livingston County Sheriff's Office and the New York State Police.  Livonia Fire Departments boat was deployed to assist Geneseo Fire Departments with the divers while Lakeville Fire Departments boat stood by ready to be deployed.  The East Avon Fire Department stood by in Geneseo's fire station while Geneseo was at the incident.  Despite the attempts of the rescuers, the operator vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene once the vehicle was recovered from the river.  Photos in the Geneseo Fire Department Photo Gallery provided by Andrew Chanler, Fire Chief.

 
Structure Fire  - Honeoye - Tuesday - January 19th, 2010

On Tuesday evening, January 19, 2010 the Honeoye/Richmond Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a barn fire at 5565 Holden Drive in the town of Canadice.  Firefighters arrived on location and found a metal pole barn fully-involved in flames. Due to the remote location of the structure, water needed to be shuttled to the scene by tankers and pumped approximately a 1/4 mile up a driveway to the fire.  Mutual aid was requested to the scene from Bristol and Naples fire departments. Livonia and Hemlock firefighters were placed on stand-by at the Honeoye fire station.  The fire was brought under control in about ninety minutes. There were no injuries. House Fire - Pavilion - Sunday - January 17th, 2010

On Sunday January 17,  Pavilion Fire Department was dispatched for a possible house fire at 11072 Route 19 in the Town of Pavilion. First arriving fire units encountered smoke from the structure and requested a second alarm.  An aggressive fire attack was able to keep the damage to the Washer Dryer area of the home.  Departments assisting Pavilion were Bethany, Stafford, Le Roy, Alexander, Town of Batavia, Leicester, York, Perry, Perry Center, Wyoming, Genesee County Emergency Management and Genesee County Sheriff Department.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.  Photos Pavilion Fire Department Photo Gallery

 
MVA - East Avon - Sunday - January 3rd, 2010

On Sunday morning, January 3, East Avon Fire and Avon EMS responded to a reported rollover MVA, with the vehicle on fire, on Pole Bridge Road, just north of the railroad overpass. Car 27 went on location and reported the car fully-involved. The driver of the vehicle was able to escape the wreckage uninjured. Controlled Burn - Bethany - Saturday January 2nd, 2010

On Saturday January 2nd., Bethany Fire Department, Under the direction of Chief Jeff Wolak conducted interior fire training using the old structure at 9417 Bethany Center Rd in the Town of Bethany.  The structure has been used on several occasions by area fire departments for training in all aspects of firefighting. At the conclusion of todays interior training the home was used in a live burn exercise.
