Structure Fire - Nunda - Sunday - October 28th, 2007

Just before 1:00 AM on Sunday October 28, 2007, Livingston County Sheriff's Deputy Kevin Geer came upon a fully involved structure fire on Route 408 just north of the Halstead Rd.  Responding firefighters from Nunda, led by Chief Brian Wood, immediately called for a tanker from Mt. Morris and a fill in from Genesee Falls Fire Department.  The concrete block building, formerly the Brink's Dairy, was indeed fully involved.  When the first streams of water hit the concrete blocks, cracks developed that made entry into the structure inadvisable.  The fire worked its way into the space between the ceiling and the flat roof and was impossible to reach.  A Drott was called in from the Town of Nunda and the building was levelled.  Cause of the fire remains under investigation.  Fire Investigators Niedermaier, Gehrig and Pearson were on scene all night with the firefighters.  The Sheriff's Office turned responsibility over to the Nunda PD but continued to assist with traffic control throughout the night.  Story and pictures by Tom Pearson.
