Combine Fire - Mt. Morris - Saturday - November 3rd, 2007

Early Saturday afternoon, Nov 3, 2007, the Mt. Morris Fire Department was dispatched to a combine fire on the Union Corners Rd.in the Twon of Mt. Morris.  First arriving firefighters found a fully involved John Deere 6620 combine.  The combine, owned by Nate Powell of West Sparta was being operated by his father, Todd Powell, picking corn on lands near the State Woods.  Todd felt the seat becoming warm and when he stopped and opend the cab door, the cab flashed over, and became fully involved.  Two fire extinguishers did not slow the fire.  Mt. Morris firefighters under the command of Chief Jim Mann quickly extinguished the fire.  Deputy Kevin Barrett was on scene from the Livingston County Sheriff's Office and Emergency Management Services is investigating the cause of the fire.  Story and photos provided by Tom Pearson.
