On June 13th the East Avon Fire Department had received a call of a tank leaking propane but it had turned out to be Anhydrous Ammonia. 2701 was first to arrive on scene, at this time the gas was pouring across the road. The tank is a 3800lb tank containing about 3200lbs of the gas inside. 278 and 275 then arrived on scene blocking off all off the whole road. About ten minutes later the gas finally died down, killing all the grass around it and in about a day there will be nothing there. The tank had originally spilled because the hose connected to the tractor had broken off causing the Anhydrous Ammonia to leak out like it did. The tank and tractor had belonged to Stokee farms. Because it was their property they had arrived on scene and helped clean up the mess. Once they smothered the gas with the dirt they were able to go home.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management and the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Photos provided by East Avon Fire Department and were taken by Brittany Smyder who also provided the story.
