Structure Fire - City of Batavia - Friday - June 8th, 2007

On Friday June 8th, 2007 the City of Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire with smoke and flames showing at 39 Washington Ave.  First arriving units encountered a working fire in the maintenance building of the Batavia City Schools.  Engine 14 hit the hydrant at the corner of Porter Ave. and Washington Ave. and laid 500 feet of LDH down the driveway to feed Engine 12.  An aggressive interior attack was able to control the fire in a relatively short period of time.  Additional platoons were requested to the scene to help with overhaul due to very warm weather conditions.  The temperature at the time of the fire was in the 90's.  Fire Department medics were on hand to keep an eye on the firefighters.  Firefighters from the Town of Batavia were placed on stand by in their quarters while the City was busy with the fire.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.
