Structure Fire - Mt. Morris - Saturday - September 12th, 2009

The Mt. Morris Fire Department and Mt. Morris Ambulance were dispatched the morning to Saturday September 12th, 2009 to 74 North Main Street for a reported possible house fire.  Mt. Morris Police arrived and reported smoke showing with flames at the rear of the structure.  Command requested 1 pumper from Leicester to the Scene and Nunda Fire Department to fill in Mt. Morris.  Assisting the family at the scene was the Northern Livingston County Chapter of the American Red Cross.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.

 
Water Ball - Mt Morris - Sunday - August 16th, 2009

On Sunday, August 16th., The Mount Morris Fire Department hosted Water ball at  Bellemey Park on Lackawanna Ave. in the Village of Mount Morris. Car vs Tree MVA- Mt. Morris - Monday - May 18th, 2009

The Mt. Morris Fire Department and Mt. Morris Ambulance along with Livingston County ALS were dispatched to a report of a car head on into a tree on Route 36 near Beagole Road at about 11:30am on Monday May 18th, 2009.  Command reported 2 patients trapped in the vehicle and requested Mercy Flight.  One patient was extricated and transported by Mercy Flight to an area hospital.  The other patient despite the efforts of the personnel on scene, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The Leicester Fire Department filled in while Mt. Morris was at the accident.  Investigating the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County District Attorney's Office and the Livingston County Corner's Office.

 
Structure Fire - Mt. Morris - Saturday - February  21st, 2009

On the morning of Saturday February 21st., The Mount Morris Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 99 North Main St. in the Village of Mount Morris. On Friday, January 30th. The Mount Morris Fire Department was dispatched to a report of Smoke in the Building at the Letchworth Country Store on Mount Morris Geneseo Rd in the Town of Mount Morris. Structure Fire - Mt. Morris - Monday - November 3rd, 2008

Mount Morris Fire Department along with Mount Morris Ambulance were dispatched Monday evening November 3rd to a report of a chimney fire at 7014 Begole Rd in the Town of Mount Morris. First arriving fire units encountered fire out of the chimney and requested assistance from Nunda. Upon further investigation, the fire had extended into the wall and roof area of the home.  Leicester was requested for one truck to fill in at Mount Morris, One truck to set up at the hydrant on Rt 36 & Begole Rd. to fill tankers. Structure Fire - Mt. Morris - Monday - September 10th, 2008

On Wednesday September 10th. Mount Morris Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire at 11 Shepard  Ave. in the Village. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire quickly to prevent major damage to the structure. Two dogs were rescued from the house but unfortunately one did not make it. A Livingston County Paramedic and a Mount Morris Police officer were able to revive the second dog . Investigation by the Livingston County  Emergency Management office determined the cause of the fire  to be a toaster. Structure Fire - Mt. Morris - Thursday - February 28th, 2008

Shortly after 0240 hrs on the morning of 2/28/08, the Mt. Morris Fire Dept was dispatched to the report of a working structure fire at 7150 Begole Rd. in the Town of Mt. Morris.  First in reported a fully involved mobile home with an addition, presumed vacant.  Responding Mt. Morris Chief Jim Mann called for mutual aid from Nunda, West Sparta and Leicester to establish a tanker shuttle.  Weather conditions were brutally cold, zero or below, and caused problems with frozen dump valves.  Also, two 120 gallon propane tanks were venting behind the trailer and required that extreme  caution be exercised until internal pressures were reduced.  The structure had recently been purchased, remodeled and was about to be sold, at 9:30 AM on the 28th.  The home was vacant at the time of the fire.  The cause of the fire is being investigated by Kevin Niedermaier, Jerry Gehrig and Tom Pearson from the Livingston County Emergency Management Services.  LCSO Deputy Kevin Geer and Sgt Jeff Wiedrick assisted at the scene.  Story and Photos provided by Tom Pearson.  Photos are located in the Mt. Combine Fire - Mt. Morris - Saturday - November 3rd, 2007

Early Saturday afternoon, Nov 3, 2007, the Mt. Morris Fire Department was dispatched to a combine fire on the Union Corners Rd.in the Twon of Mt. Morris.  First arriving firefighters found a fully involved John Deere 6620 combine.  The combine, owned by Nate Powell of West Sparta was being operated by his father, Todd Powell, picking corn on lands near the State Woods.  Todd felt the seat becoming warm and when he stopped and opend the cab door, the cab flashed over, and became fully involved.  Two fire extinguishers did not slow the fire.  Mt. Morris firefighters under the command of Chief Jim Mann quickly extinguished the fire.  Deputy Kevin Barrett was on scene from the Livingston County Sheriff's Office and Emergency Management Services is investigating the cause of the fire.  Story and photos provided by Tom Pearson.  Photos are located in the Mt. Mt. Morris Firefighter - Killed in PA Bus Crash - June 29th, 2007

The Livingston Area Fireline Network extends its deepest sympathy to the Mt. Morris Fire Department and the Family of Carl Fowler upon learning of Carl's untimely death.  Carl was killed in a tour bus accident this morning on I-81 in New Milford Township, PA.  Twelve other people were injured in the crash.  More details are posted on News10 NBC, RNews, and 13 Wham TV.  Calling hours: Thursday July 5th from 4pm to 9pm at the Martin Funeral Home, Mt. Morris.  Firefighters services will be held.  All firefighters are requested to meet at the Mt. Mt. Morris Fire Department - Water Ball - Sunday - June 24th, 2007

On Sunday June 24th. The Mount Morris Fire Department hosted a Water Ball Tournament at Bellamy Park in the Village of Mount Morris. Teams participating in the afternoons events were Mount Morris, Wayland, Wales Center, Silver Springs and Sheldon Fire Departments. Mt. Morris Fire Chief Arrested

Local news media is reporting that Roger Yencer Jr. has been arrested for the 4th time in a year.  They are also reporting that the Mt. Morris Village Board has removed Roger from the position of Fire Chief.  click here for Rnews , Channel 13 ,  and Channel 10 . As soon as we have an official press release from the Village of Mt. Controlled Burn - Mt. Morris - Saturday - March 31st, 2007

On Saturday morning, March 31st. The Mount Morris Fire Department conducted a controlled burn at 6955 Cleveland Rd in the Town of Mount Morris. An old Barn that had fallen down and other out buildings were the subject of the drill. The buildings were being burned to make room for a new home to be built.  The remaining house on the property may be used by the Fire Department for training in the fall and then burned. Barn Fire - Mt. Morris- Sunday - February 25th, 2007

The Mt. Morris Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported barn fire at 3053 Moyer Road the afternoon of Sunday, February 25th, 2007.  Car 4104 went on location with smoke showing.  Car 41 requested a pumper tanker from Nunda and West Sparta to the scene. Car 41 requested Cuylerville for a fill in.  Nunda Ambulance filled in for Mt. Auto Extrication Drill - Mt. Morris - Wednesday - February 21st, 2007

On Wednesday February 21st. the Mount Morris and West Sparta Fire  Departments along with the Mount Morris Ambulance participated in an Auto Extrication Drill on East Ridge Rd in the Town of Mount Morris. A Mini Van, A Car on its side and a small SUV on its roof were the subject  of the exercise.  Under the direction of Mount Morris Fire Chief, Joe Gervase, Members utilized several rescue tools. Ice Rescue Drill - Mt. Morris - Sunday - February 18th, 2007

On Sunday February 18th. The Mount Morris Fire Department and Mount Morris Ambulance Conducted a cold water rescue drill at a pond on Cleveland Rd in the Town of Mount Morris. On Saturday Morning October 14th The Mount Morris Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 18 Genesee St. in the  Village of Mount Morris. Donated Truck For Mt. Morris   Saturday June 24th, 2006

On Saturday June 24th, 2006 members of the Suffern, NY Fire Department arrived in Mt. Morris with a special gift to the Mt. Morris Fire Department, a Sutphen Pumper.  Mt. Morris has recently suffered the loss of pumper do to mechanical problems.  The newest donation to the Mt. Morris Fire Department will supplement the Engine that East Avon Donated earlier this year and the Pumper Tanker Mt. Live Burn Drill - Mt Morris - Saturday April 22, 2006

Mt Morris Fire Department was host to a Live Burn Exercise on Saturday April 22 at 51 Grove Street.  The house used was the scene of a structure fire on February 11th.  Besides removing the burned out structure for future renovation of the site, the drill provided the participating departments an opportunity to practice establishing an adequate water supply operation in a limited access area.  Assisting Mt Morris Fire Department at the scene were Mt Morris EMS, Dansville EMS and L518, Nunda P425, Cuylerville P164 and T167, Groveland P325, and Leicester P135.  West Sparta Fire Department provided a stand by crew in Mt Morris and Retsof filled in for Leicester.  Photos by Randy Worden.  Photos are located in the Mt.  MVA - Mt. Morris - Sunday - March 25th, 2006

The Mt. Morris Fire Department, Nunda Ambulance, and Livingston County ALS were dispatched to a reported head on motor vehicle accident on River Road near Crossover Road the afternoon of Sunday March 25th, 2006.  Responding apparatus reported people trapped and Nunda Fire Department was requested for the Rescue Truck to the scene.  Mercy Flight was also requested to the scene.  Do tot he patients condition, Mercy Flight Helicopter was not utilized, however its staff assisted Nunda and Livingston County ALS with ground transport.  One patient was prounced dead on arrival at an area hospital.  Avon ALS Medic 70 along with Nunda Ambulance transported other patients to area hospitals.  Leicester Fire Department filled in for Mt. Morris Fire Department.  At the same time as Nunda Fire Department was dispatched to assist Mt. Morris, Nunda also was requested and provided a fill in to the Canaseraga Fire Department.

Mt. MORRIS BATTLES BLAZE IN VILLAGE

Livingston County- The Mt. Morris Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire around 2:20 pm on the 11th of February on Grove Street in the Village.

Upon arrival of first due units; reports of smoke showing from the two story, wood frame family dwelling, resulted in the need for an additional alarm of mutual aid companies.  Leicester and Cuylerville Fire Departments were called to the scene as well as an aerial ladder from the Geneseo Fire Department

Investigation by the Livingston County Emergency Management Office, determined the fire to be electrical in the ceiling of the kitchen and spread quickly into a void between the first and second floor on which where many stored cardboard boxes, the belongings of new tenants moving in.   Initial interior operations had to be called off due to the progression of the fire and hindered water supply due to frozen hydrants.  Additional units were called in from the Retsof Fire Department for overhaul and West Sparta Fire Department provided a fill in for Mt. Morris.  There were no injuries reported but the house was considered an estimated loss of $75,000.

Fire Chief Joseph Gervase and the Mt. Morris Fire Department responded to this alarm moments after having been presented Engine 276 from the East Avon Fire Department.  Engine 276 will temporarily replace one of Mt. Morris’s pieces of apparatus that was lost due to mechanical defects.   Chief Gervase expressed an enormous amount of gratitude for this act of charity from the members of East Avon.   Photos are located in the Mt. The Mt. Morris Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to the 8100 Block of Creek Road on Thursday November 17th, 2005 at approximately 5:00am to investigate the smell of smoke in the residence.  The Nunda Fire Department was requested to the scene.  Investigating at the scene was the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

The Mt. Morris Fire Department along with Mt. Morris Ambulance were dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident on Main Street at State Street on Friday November 11th,, 2005 at approximately 11:30am.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Mt. Morris Police Department.

The Mt. Morris Fire Department and the Mt. Morris Ambulance with ALS were dispatched to Mt. Morris Nunda Road at Ridge Road for a reported roll over motor vehicle accident on Monday November 7th, 2005 at approximately 10:15 am.  Assisting at the scene was the New York State Police.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

The Mt. Morris Fire Department and Mt. Morris Ambulance were dispatched to a reported stove fire in the structure at 10 East State Street at approximately 6:15pm Thursday, November 3rd, 2005.  Assisting at the scene was the Mt. Morris Police Department and the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.

 

MVA - Mt. Morris - Thursday - November 3rd, 2005

The Mt. Morris Fire Department, Mt. Morris Ambulance, and ALS Medic 75 were dispatched to a reported pedestrian struck on Chapel Street on Thursday, November, 3rd, 2005.  The Mt. Morris Ambulance with ALS transported a patient to an area hospital.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Mt. Morris Police Department.

 

MVA- Mt. Morris - Wednesday November 2nd, 2005

The Mt. Morris Fire Department and the Mt. Morris Ambulance were dispatched to a one car MVA at Route 36 and Dutch Street Road on Wednesday evening November 2nd, 2005.  One patient was transported to an area hospital.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

 

Structure Fire - Mt. Morris - Monday October 31st, 2005

The Mt. Morris Fire Department and Mt. Morris Ambulance were dispatched to a reported trailer fire on East State Street at approximately 6:30pm, Monday October 31st, 2005.  Mt. Morris Police went on location with flames showing.  Mt. Morris Car 41 went on location reporting a working fire.  The Leicester Fire Department was called to the scene and the Groveland Fire Department stood by while Mt. Morris was out.  Groveland covered a natural gas leak for Mt. Morris.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.

 

Barn Fire - Mt. Morris - Friday - July 15th, 2005

The Mt. Morris Fire Department and the Nunda Fire Department were dispatched to a reported barn fire on Short Tract Road on the morning of Friday, July 15th, 2005.  Cuylerville and West Sparta assisted at the scene.  Genesee Falls filled in for Nunda; Leicester for Mt. Morris; and Retsof for Cuylerville & Leicester.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Emergency Management Office.

May 5, 2005 - 1 Murray Hill Drive, Mt. Morris, NY 14510

Kevin Niedermaier, Director of Emergency Management Services, reports that fire broke out at approximately 1:18 AM Thursday morning, May 12, 2005 on the roof of Building 1 on the Livingston County Campus on Murray Hill.  First in firefighters under the direction of Chief Joe Gervase found flames from the roof on the 5th floor.  A third alarm assignment brought over 100 firefighters to the scene with pumpers from Leicester, Cuylerville, Groveland, Nunda and Retsof.  Ladders trucks to the scene came from Geneseo and Avon with two additional ladders from Perry and Warsaw turned around enroute when the fire was declared under control.  Geneseo brought their new ladder truck that was not officially in service.   Ambulances from Mt. Morris, Geneseo, Cuylerville, Retsof and Dansville were on the scene.

An initial attack was made using master streams from the deck guns of pumpers from Mt. Morris and Leicester.  Firefighting crews reached the roof from inside the 5th floor at about the same time and used the in-house standpipe to complete the knockdown.

The first four floors of the building house the Livingston County Mt. Morris Campus Skilled Nursing Facility.  Facility staff  moved patients as necessary and prepared for total evacuation if it was deemed necessary.  One resident sustained an injury during the evacuation of the 4th floor and was transported to the hospital.

Fire Investigators Niedermaier, Gehrig and Pearson from the Office of Emergency Management Services investigated the fire.  Fire damage was limited to the roof that was being resurfaced.  There was minor smoke and water damage to the 4th floor living area that required the temporary relocation of 8 residents.  The cause of the fire has been determined to be deviation from accepted practices while the roof was being resurfaced with tar.  The contractor responsible for the roof work had left the site at approximately 4:00 PM.
