Haz Mat - East Avon - Wednesday - June 13th, 2007 On June 13th the East Avon Fire Department had received a call of a tank leaking propane but it had turned out to be Anhydrous Ammonia. 2701 was first to arrive on scene, at this time the gas was pouring across the road. The tank is a 3800lb tank containing about 3200lbs of the gas inside. 278 and 275 then arrived on scene blocking off all off the whole road. About ten minutes later the gas finally died down, killing all the grass around it and in about a day there will be nothing there. The tank had originally spilled because the hose connected to the tractor had broken off causing the Anhydrous Ammonia to leak out like it did. The tank and tractor had belonged to Stokee farms. Because it was their property they had arrived on scene and helped clean up the mess. Once they smothered the gas with the dirt they were able to go home. Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management and the Livingston County Sheriff's Office. Photos provided by East Avon Fire Department and were taken by Brittany Smyder who also provided the story. |

Two Structure Fires in 12 Hours East Avon Wednesday December 21 and Thursday December 22, 2005 The East Avon Fire Department responded to 2 Structure Fires within 12 hours between December 21st and 22nd 2005. At approximately 9:00 PM Wednesday evening, the East Avon Fire District was toned out for a reported chimney fire at 2706 Nations Rd, Avon - Tadmore Farms. Car 27 went on location at the farm's tenant house with heavy smoke from the eaves and declared a working structure fire. 1 pumper from Caledonia was requested to stand by in East Avon House 1, but was rerouted into the scene for a RIT team and water supply. York TA-174 was also requested to the scene for rural water supply operations. The first due crew off Q278 mounted an aggressive interior attack while the crew from P275 handled ventilation. Efforts to contain the blaze were temporarily hindered due to the construction of the farmhouse - balloon construction and tongue and groove paneling in the ceilings. Car 27 declared the fire under control within an hour. Geneseo Fire Department was dispatched as the replacement fill in crew to House 1 after returning from their earlier MVA and Geneseo Ambulance 820 provided on scene rehab for East Avon. Investigation into the cause shows that an improperly installed fire place allowed fire into the walls which traveled to the attic area. Assisting at the scene with the investigation were members of the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management and Livingston County Sheriffs Office. There were no reported injuries. At 7:40 AM Thursday December 22, 2005, East Avon was again dispatched for a reported structure fire. This one was at 28 Meadowlark Drive, Harper Trailer Park Avon. NYS Police unit 3E46 was the first emergency responder on scene and reported an "Inferno". Livonia Fire Department was requested to the scene with 1 pumper for the RIT Team and Lakeville Fire Department filled East Avon House 1.
