House Fire - Dansville - Saturday - May 1st, 2004

Quick action by the homeowner and a rapid response by the Danville Fire Department are credited with preventing a major fire in the Village of Dansville.  An improper connection between a ceiling light electrical box and a BX cable in the home of James Stafford, 61 Main St. Dansville, resulted in a fire in the attic.  The homeowners were watching TV at 5:45 pm when the power went out in the room they were in.  Upon replacing the fuse, it immediately blew again.  Mr. Stafford began searching for the problem and entered the attic where he found flames, about 6 to 7 inches high and getting bigger.  911 was called and a bucket of water applied.  Dansville FD removed the burned insulation and searched for extension.  Story and Photo's provided by Tom Pearson.
