Car into the River - Avon - Thursday March 5th, 2009

The Avon Fire Department, Avon Ambulance, and Avon ALS Medic 70 were dispatched to the area of the Driving Park on Spring St. for a report of vehicle into the river with a subject still in the vehicle.  This was a radio alarm from Avon PD as the result of a earlier pursuit by the New York State Police.  Avon Command requested mutual aid from East Avon Fire Dept., Caledonia Fire Dept., Geneseo Fire Dept and Ambulance, Livonia Ambulance and ALS, and the Monroe County 5th Battalion Water Rescue Team which brought Rush, Scottsville, and Honeoye Falls Fire Departments.  East Avon Fire Department and Caledonia Ambulance with Medic 7701 filled in at the Avon Fire Station and Lima Fire Dept. filled in for East Avon.  Divers for the New York State Police, New York State DEC, and Livingston County Sheriff's Office Assisted.  The investigation is being handled by the New York State Police with the Avon Police Department and Livingston County Sheriff's Office assisting.  One victim was transported to an area hospital.  Despite the efforts of the rescuers, the subject did not survive.  Photos provided by Jeff Faugh.

MVA - Avon - Thursday - December 18th, 2008

The Avon Fire Department, Avon Ambulance, and Avon ALS Medic 70 were dispatched along with automatic stand by request for Mercy Flight, to a reported car pedestrian MVA in the parking lot at Grey Metal Products, 495 Rochester St., the evening of Thursday December 18th, 2008.  Avon Car 2202 went on location with a subject down in the parking lot.  Mercy Flight was requested to the scene and transported 1 patient to an area hospital.  Investigating the accident is the Avon Village Police Department.  Assisting with the investigation is the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

 
Haz Mat - Avon - Sunday - December 14th, 2008

On Sunday, December 14, 2008, the Avon Fire Department was dispatched to the report of a tanker leaking gasoline at 300 Main St.  First in firefighters found an old fuel delivery truck that was being used as a storage vehicle leaking off road diesel fuel.  Avon firefighters established Spedi-dri dikes and called for the County Haz Mat Team and the East Avon Haz Mat Trailer to assist with the spill.  The leak was contained with fuel off loaded into storage drums.  A cleanup contractor was hired to finish the cleanup project.  Story and Photos provided by Tom Pearson.

 
Car Fire - Avon - Tuesday - June 24th, 2008

On Tuesday, June 24, shortly after 10 a.m., the Village of Avon Fire Department was dispatched to a reported car fire at the Avon Animal Hospital at 405 Rochester Street. Firefighters arrived on the scene and found a car in the parking lot fully involved in fire. The blaze was brought swiftly under control. Avon Police also assisted at the scene. Burn Drill - Saturday - March 29th, 2008 - Avon

On Saturday March 29th. the Avon Fire Department conducted a controlled burn at 273 River St in the Village of Avon. Demolition from an old barn was the object of the drill. Avon Engine 226 laid a LDH supply line from a hydrant on River St into the fire area and supplied Avon Quint 228. The quint was positioned to protect all the exposures and hand lines were deployed.  East Avon Engine 277 hit the hydrant and supplied water  to Engine 226. Caledonia Engine 115 provided standby at the scene for Avon. EMS was provided by Avon Rotary-Lions Ambulance.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.

Structure Fire - Avon - Sunday - October 28th, 2007

Just before 1:00 AM on Sunday October 28, 2007, the Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance were dispatched to a report of smoke in the structure 310 E. Main St. at the Charlton Bed & Breakfast.  Responding equipment went on location with smoke showing.  Upon investigation it was found to be a chimney fire.  Assisting at the scene was the Avon Village Police and the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.

 
Motor Vehicle Accident - Avon - Thursday - August 23rd, 2007

The Avon Fire Department, Avon Ambulance, and Avon ALS Medic 70 were dispatched to a reported MVA with injury on Thursday August 23rd at approximately 12:00pm on East Main Street at Pole Bridge Road.  Car 2202 went on location with a 4 car MVA with at least 2 people trapped and requested East Avon for an additional set of extrication tools.  Avon EMS Command requested Avon's 2nd Ambulance and a Caledonia Ambulance to the scene for a 3rd Ambulance.  Three patients were transported to area hospitals.   Investigating the accident is the Avon Village Police.  Assisting at the scene was the New York State Police.  The Geneseo Ambulance covered a call while Avon was at the accident and the Livonia Ambulance filled in for Avon Ambulance.  Photos provided by the Web Master.

 
Structure Fire - Avon - Monday - July 16th, 2007

The Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance were dispatched to a report of smoke in the building at the Coyne Laundromat on Genesee St. the evening of Monday July 16th, 2007.  Car 2201 went on location with nothing showing.  Upon investigation it was determined that there were clothing items in a drier on fire.  There was no structural damage to the building.  Assisting at the scene was the Avon Village Police.

 
MVA - Avon - Wednesday - May 30th, 2007

Just as Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance were being released from East Avon's Structure Fire they were dispatched along with Medic 70 to a reported head on MVA on Genesee Street at Oak Street.  Avon Fire Department went on location with a 2 car head on MVA.  The operator of one vehicle saw the second car coming at them and was stopped at the time of the collision.  The other vehicle hit the stopped vehicle as a very slow speed.  Both operators were checked out by Avon Ambulance and neither were injured.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Avon Village Police Department.

 
Structure Fire - Avon - Wednesday - May 23rd, 2007

The Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance were dispatched Wednesday Evening, May 23rd, 2007 at approximately 20:00 hrs for a reported drier fire in the basement of the Avon Inn, 55 East Main St.  Car 2201 went on location with smoke showing.  Investigation found a fire in the drier with a heavy smoke condition.  Prior to the arrival of the fire department, employees of the Avon Inn used a fire extinguisher to contain the fire.  There was no extension to the structure except for the some smoke.  While crews were picking up at the Avon Inn, a second alarm came in for the odor of natural gas in a residence on North Avenue came in.  The crew from Quint 228 and Car 2202 handled the North Ave job and then returned to the Avon Inn.  Crews were back in service at approximately 21:30 hrs.

Structure Fire with Person Trapped Avon  Monday July 3rd, 2006

The Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance with ALS Medic 70 were dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Glen Apartments on Sackett Road the evening of Monday July 3rd, 2006.  Avon command requested a response from East Avon to the scene.  Two Avon firefighters and a firefighter from East Avon pulled a victim from the burning apartment.  The victim was transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries.  Caledonia Ambulance and ALS Medic 77 responded to the scene for Stand By and Rehab.  The Lima Fire Department filled in for East Avon.  Assisting at the scene was the Avon Village Police Department and the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.

 

Controlled Burn - Avon - Sunday   March 25th, 2006

On Sunday March 26th the Avon Fire Department hosted a multi department drill at 427 Rochester St. in the Village of Avon. A house and barn were used in the live fire exercise. This site had been used for training by several area departments prior to this drill. Departments assisting Avon were East Avon, Lakeville, Geneseo, Caledonia, York, Retsof, Rush and Scottsville.  Story by Jay Lynch.

Smoke Investigation - Avon - Friday November 18th, 2005

The Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance were dispatched to a residence on Genesee Street on Friday November 18th, 2005 at approximately 11:30 am to investigate the smell of smoke in the residence.  Assisting at the scene was the Avon Police Department.

 

Motor Vehicle Accident - Avon Wednesday November 9th, 2005

The Avon Fire Department and the Avon Ambulance were dispatched to a reported car vs. telephone pole on East Main Street at High Street on Wednesday November 9th, 2005.  The Avon Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.

 
Structure Fire - Genesee St. - Avon - Tuesday - June 7th, 2005
 
The Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance were dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Avondale Restaurant on Genesee Street the afternoon of Tuesday June 7th, 2005.  Avon Police Department went on location with a working fire in a multi-occupancy commercial structure.  The fire was quickly contained.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management.  The East Avon Fire Department stood by in quarters while Avon was out.  Photos provided by Tom Pearson.

 

Structure Fire - Avon - Saturday - April 23rd, 2005

At approximately 8:50pm on Saturday evening April 23rd, 2005 the Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance were dispatched to a confirmed structure fire at 53 Genesee Street, Hurricane Technologies a commercial building with apartments above.  Avon Car 2202 went on location with heavy smoke showing.  Multiple departments provided mutual aid to the scene including: East Avon, Lakeville, Geneseo, Caledonia, Lima, Livonia, and Rush.  Fill ins were: Caledonia in Avon, Rush in East Avon, Hemlock in Lakeville, Conesus in Livonia, Mumford in Caledonia, and Mendon in Rush.  The American Red Cross assisted several tenants with temporary housing.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Emergency Management Services and the Avon Police Department.  Assisting at the scene was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

Structure Fire - Avon - Wednesday - April 13th, 2005

At approximately 1:00 PM on Wednesday 4/13, the Avon Fire Department was dispatched to a stove fire at 25 Dooer Ave in the village.  The homeowner had put the oven on self clean and some of the residue on the bottom of the stove ignited, sending smoke throughout the home.  The fire was extinguished by Avon PD Officer Pete Henry and Ass Fire Chief Pampaino.  Responding crews used fans to ventilated the house.  Story and photo provided by Tom Pearson.

 

Structure Fire - Avon - Thursday  February 17th, 2005

The Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance were dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Happy Buffet, 290 East Main Street on Monday Morning, February 17th, 2005.  Avon Police Department went on location reporting a working fire.  Avon Command immediately requested East Avon Fire Department to the scene.  The Caledonia Fire Department was requested to fill at the Avon Fire Department but, while enroute was re-routed to the scene.  The Geneseo Fire Department was then  requested to fill at the Avon Fire Station.  After the fire was under control, the Caledonia Fire Department fill at the East Avon Fire Station.  Assisting at the scene was the Lima Ambulance, the Avon Police Department, the Livingston County Office of Emergency Management, the Livingston County Health Department, and the NYS Dept. of Ags and Markets.  Photos provided by Tom Pearson.

MVA - Avon - Thursday - July 1st, 2004

The Avon Fire Department, Avon Ambulance, and Medic 70 were dispatched to a reported Vehicle into the house, on West Main Street at South Avon the morning of Thursday July 1st, 2004.  Responding units found a vehicle into a multi occupancy building, with structural damage, and a victim laying beside the car.  Avon Ambulance with Medic 70 transported one victim to an area hospital.  RG&E was requested to the scene as the vehicle had struck a natural gas line when it went thru the building.  Investigating the cause of the accident is the Avon Village Police Department.

 

House Fire - Avon - Wednesday - May 5th, 2004

The Avon Fire Department and Avon Ambulance were dispatched to a reported house fire at 221 Commerce Drive on Wednesday, May 5th, 2004 at approximately 5:15pm.  Avon car 2201 went on location with a working fire.  Moments later Car 22 upgraded that to a fully involved house fire and requested East Avon Fire Department to the scene.  Assisting at the scene was the Avon Police Department and the New York State Police.  Investigating the cause of the fire is the Livingston County Bureau of Fire and the Avon Police Department  Photos by Jeffrey Arnold
