Grass Fire - Leroy - Monday - September 21st, 2009

On Monday September 21st., Le Roy Fire Department along with Le Roy Volunteer Ambulance were dispatched to a reported grass fire at 8205 West Bergen Rd in the Town of Le Roy.  Le Roy 703 went on location with a grass fire in a hedgerow.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 

Explorer Weekend - Bergen - July 25th & July 26th

 
The Bergen explorer weekend was held last weekend July 25th and 26th.  The first day was training 
on Mercy flight, bus safety, ladders, knots, & search and rescue. The second day was competitions, 
hose rolling, turn out gear efficiency, bucket brigade, and water ball. Bergen, Rush & Livonia Explorers

Ventilation Training - Leroy - Monday - July 27th, 2009

Monday July 27th. Le Roy and Bergen Fire Departments got together at the house on the proposed Wal-Mart  property  on West Main St in the Town of Le Roy. Two training sessions were being conducted throughout the evening. Session 1 was a Live Burn using the inside of the structure to familiarize firefighters with the heat and smoke conditions that will be encountered in actual firefighting. Session 2 was Aerial Ladder, Ventilation and Roof Work. Firefighters were able to set up the Aerial Ladders and access the roof to conduct ventilation operations and to familiarize themselves with using saws and other tools in an elevated positions.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.

 
Search & Rescue - Leroy - Monday - July 20th, 2009

On Monday July 20th.,  Le Roy Fire Department hosted Search and Rescue training using the house on the property of the proposed  Wal-Mart store on Route 5 in the Town of Le Roy. Forty five Firefighters from Le Roy, Stafford and Pavilion participated in the evenings training session.  Under the command of Lt. Mike Joy, multiple Search and Rescue evolutions were conducted throughout the evening. Simulated smoke conditions were used to give  the firefighters a realistic atmosphere while conducting search and rescue operations and evacuation drills.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.

 
Structure Fire - City of Batavia - Monday June 22nd, 2009

On Monday June 22nd. the City of Batavia was dispatched for a possible structure fire at 10 Woodcrest Dr. in the City of Batavia. Engine 12 went on location and reported Smoke from the chimney and garage area of the home and requested the1st and 3rd platoons to the scene.  An aggressive attack  held the fire damage to the basement area of the home.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 
New Delivery - Bergen Fire Department Quint 26

On Saturday June 13th the Bergen Fire Department held training on there new Quint 26. The Quint is a Pierce Impel 2000GPM Pump with a 75' Aluminum Ladder. This is the first aerial devise in the department history.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 
Structure Fire - Leroy- Thursday - May 21st, 2009

The Leroy Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported house fire at 8484 East Main Street Road shortly after midnight the morning of Thursday May 21st, 2009.  While responding Leroy Command was updated that Law Enforcement was on location and reported a fully involved house fire.   Command requested Caledonia Fire Department, Bergen Fire Department, and Pavilion Fire Department to the scene.  Once on location Command requested a FAST Team from the Town of Batavia and Stafford to fill in for Leroy.  Photos provided by John Spaulding.

Search & Rescue Drill - Bethany - Saturday - May 9th, 2009

On Saturday May 9th. the Bethany Fire Department conducted a Search and Rescue Drill at the Genesee County Park in the Town of Bethany.  Two search teams were assembled to cover sections of the park to try and locate two individuals that were missing. Agency's that were assisting Bethany were Genesee County Emergency Management, Pavilion, Alexander, Stafford and Wyoming Fire Departments.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.

 
Controlled Burn - Oakfield - Sunday - April 26th, 2009

On Sunday April 26th. the Oakfield Fire Department, Under the direction of Chief Sean Downing, Conducted live fire training using an old house at 3371 Maltby Rd in the Town of Oakfield. This house has been used on several occasions by the department over the last few weeks. Departments participating in the drill with Oakfield were Elba, Alabama, Town of Batavia and East Pembroke.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.

 
Controlled Burn - Alabama - Saturday - March 21st, 2009

On Saturday March 21st. the Alabama Fire Department conducted live fire training using an old home on Casey Rd in the Town of Alabama. The structure was used by the department on previous occasions for Ventilation and SCBA evolutions.  Departments participating in the days training were Alabama, Oakfield and Pembroke / Indian Falls.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 
Controlled Burn - Stafford - Saturday - March 7th, 2009

On Saturday March 7th.,  Stafford Fire Department conducted a controlled burn on Sweetland Rd in the Town of Stafford. With the assistance of Le Roy and Bethany, multiple hand line were deployed around the structure. Le Roy hit the hydrant on the east side of the fire ground while Bethany hit the one to the west and supplied Stafford at the front of the structure.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 
Structure Fire - Pavilion - Thursday - February 5th, 2009

On Thursday, February 5th. the Pavilion Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a barn fire at 584 Perry Rd in the Town of Covington. First arriving fire unit encountered smoke from a pole barn style building. Upon investigation by Pavilion First Assistant Chief Paul Dougherty he located Calvin Pursel, Who is confined to a wheelchair and was trying to crawl from the building. Dougherty and an unknown bystander  rescued  Pursel from the building. Pursel was taken to Wyoming County Community hospital for smoke inhalation. The fire was knocked down quickly with little damage to the structure.  Structure Fire - Pavilion - Tuesday - January 17th, 2009

On Tuesday  January 27th.,  The Pavilion Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire at 6714 Brownell Rd in the Town of Covington. First arriving fire units encountered a fire on an outside corner of the house and requested assistance from Alexander, Bethany, Le Roy, Stafford, Bergen, Fast team from the City of Batavia, Wyoming, Perry, Perry Center, Warsaw, York, Leicester, and Caledonia.  Story and photos provided by Jay Lynch.

Genesee County LODD & Funeral 

Tuesday - December 30th, 2008 East Pembroke

It is with deep sadness I inform you of the passing of Brother Firefighter Norm Koch. Norm was the Past Chief of the Corfu Fire District and currently a Commissioner of the East Pembroke Fire District and Fire Police Captain.  Norm passed away this afternoon while assisting at the scene of a MVA on
Pearl St.. Norm suffered an apparent heart attack and was transported to UMMC where he was pronounced.

Firefighter Koch had over 50 years in the Fire Service with Corfu and East Pembroke and will be deeply missed.

Please extend your sympathy to Norm’s Family and Friends and Brother and Sister Firefighters.

Calling hours have been set for 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and a funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday at Pembroke Community Center, 116 East Main St., Corfu.

“The family wants full firefighter services and this being an in-the-line of duty death, we’ve already been getting a lot of calls from other departments offering help.”

Structure Fire - Bethany - Monday - December 15th, 2008

On Monday December 15th the Bethany Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke coming from the trailer at 5807 Ellicott St  in the Town of Bethany. Bethany 351 went on location and confirmed the report and requested Mutual Aide from Stafford, Pavilion, Town of Batavia, Alexander and the FAST Team from The City of Batavia.  Story and photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 
Structure Fire - Pavilion - Monday - November 3rd, 2008

Just before midnight on Monday November 3rd, 2008 the Pavilion Fire Department was dispatched to a reported kitchen fire, in the apartment above the US Post Office, 11142 South Lake Road.  Pavilion Fire Department went on location and declared a working fire.  Command requested a 2nd alarm assignment.  The 2nd alarm brought fire and EMS units from Geneseo, Wyoming, Livingston, and Monroe Counties to the scene.

 
Structure Fire - Town of Batavia - Saturday - November 1st, 2008

The Town of Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to a reported garage fire at 3731 Pike Road the morning of Saturday November 1st, 2008.  Town of Batavia Fire Department went on location and reported a working fire.  Command requested a 2nd alarm, however it had to be modified as many of the units on the 2nd alarm assignment were at the fires in North Java or Sheldon.

 
Burn Drill - Pavilion - Saturday - September 6th, 2008

On a very foggy Saturday morning, Fire Departments from Genesee, Livingston and Wyoming County's got together for a live fire training exercises. The Pavilion Fire Department hosted the controlled burn at 7502 York Rd in the Town of Pavilion. The old home has been used for training prior to the Saturday morning drill. Departments participating were Pavilion, York, Mount Morris, Avon, Caledonia, Bethany, Town of Batavia, Leicester, Cuylerville, Perry, Perry Center, Castile, Le Roy, Stafford  and Wyoming.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.

 
Ventilation Training - Pavilion - Monday - July 21st, 2008

On Monday July 21 The Pavilion Fire Department conducted Ventilation Training on an old house at 7502 York Rd in the Town of Pavilion. The Department has used the house on other occasions for training an is planning on a live burn in September.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.

Garage Fire - Pavilion - Thursday - October 11th, 2007

On Thursday October 11th, the Pavilion Fire Department was dispatched to a reported garage fire at 572 Route 246 in the Town of Covington. First arriving fire unite encountered a fully involved garage with rapidly deteriorating conditions to the exterior of the adjacent house. Pavilion 802 requested a second alarm bringing  fire units from Genesee, Wyoming and Livingston County's to the scene.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 
 New Leroy 63

On August 27th the LeRoy Fire Department placed into service the new Engine 63. This apparatus will play a key role in the response of the fire department to all areas of the district. Engine 63 will be the first responding unit to all fires and motor vehicle accidents.  The truck has a 500+ horsepower Caterpillar engine. The power is used to drive the 2000 gallons per minute pump and put the 1800 gallons of water in the tank into motion. It has a telescoping light tower that is powered by an onboard 15K generator. The generator also helps power a full set of “Jaws of Life” extrication equipment.   Many hours of planning, inspecting, outfitting and driver training went in to getting this Engine in service. The entire process took almost a year to complete. Thanks to all those who made extra efforts to get this valuable truck in service.

 Structure Fire - Alabama - Sunday - August 19th, 2007

The Alabama Fire Department (Genesee County) was dispatched to a reported structure fire on Meadville Road on the Tonawanda Indian Reservation at the Tribal Office the morning of Sunday August 19th, 2007.  Alabama 151 went on location with a fully involved structure fire.  Command immediately requested a second and third alarm to the scene.  Fire departments from Genesee, Niagara, and Erie Counties responded.

 
MVA - Pavilion - Friday - July 20th, 2007

On Friday July 20th. The Pavilion Fire Department along with the City of Batavia Ambulance were dispatched to a reported MVA on Route 63 at Hanson Concrete Company in the Town of Pavilion. First units on the scene encountered a Dump truck into the Hanson office building and a Tractor Trailer blocking the west bound lane.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 
Controlled Burn - Pavilion - Monday - July 16th, 2007

On Monday July 16th, The Pavilion Fire Department conducted a controlled burn at 10854 South Street Rd in the Town of Pavilion. A small barn was the object of the evenings training session.  Hand lines and master streams were deployed around to protect a house and barn that were in close proximity  to the fire building. Hay Wagon Fire - Bethany - Monday - July 2nd, 2007

On Monday July 2nd. the Bethany Fire Department was dispatched to a reported Hay Wagon - Field Fire fire on East Rd in the Town of Bethany. First arriving units encountered a Fully involved Wagon in the field with extension up the driveway and onto the road. Individuals with buckets were trying to control the fire that was rapidly approaching the large barn adjacent to the driveway. Controlled Burn - Pavilion - Monday - June 18th, 2007

On Monday June 18th. the Pavilion Fire Department conducted a controlled burn at 10588 South Street Rd in the Town of Pavilion. The barn had been pushed into a pile away from overhead power lines. Hand lines were deployed around the fire as a tanker shuttle was being set up. Departments assisting Pavilion were Bethany, York, Perry and Wyoming.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 
 
Structure Fire - City of Batavia - Friday - June 8th, 2007

On Friday June 8th, 2007 the City of Batavia Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire with smoke and flames showing at 39 Washington Ave.  First arriving units encountered a working fire in the maintenance building of the Batavia City Schools.  Engine 14 hit the hydrant at the corner of Porter Ave. and Washington Ave. and laid 500 feet of LDH down the driveway to feed Engine 12.  An aggressive interior attack was able to control the fire in a relatively short period of time.  Additional platoons were requested to the scene to help with overhaul due to very warm weather conditions.  The temperature at the time of the fire was in the 90's.  Fire Department medics were on hand to keep an eye on the firefighters.  Firefighters from the Town of Batavia were placed on stand by in their quarters while the City was busy with the fire.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 
Controlled Burn - Alexander - Saturday - June 2nd, 2007

On Saturday June 2nd,  Alexander Fire Department conducted a controlled burn on Stannard Rd in the Town of Alexander. An old partially dismantled house was the object of the days exercise. Alexander 6 laid a 700' LDH supply line down a driveway to a pond behind a residence across the road from the fire building and proceeded to set up a draft. Attica 5 connected to the supply line at the end of the driveway and supplied Alexander 7. Two master streams were set up on each side of the building. Tankers from Alexander, Bethany and Darien were parked on the road at the ready in the event of a supply line malfunction.  Story and photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 
Controlled Burn - Stafford - Saturday - May 6th, 2007

On Sunday May 6th the Stafford Fire Department conducted a live fire exercise in an old home at 9770 Roanoke Rd in the Town of  Stafford. Pavilion set up a draft at a dry hydrant on Fox Place St. and Bethany laid a LDH supply line out to Roanoke Rd. Bethany supplied Stafford at the fire building as multiple hand lines were deployed around to protect the exposures. Departments assisting Stafford were Pavilion, Bethany, South Byron on stand by in Stafford and York on standby for Pavilion.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 
Structure Fire - Bergen - Sunday - March 4th, 2007

The Bergen Fire Department and Ambulance were dispatched to a reported automatic alarm at Miller Woodworking, Rt. 19 at the Railroad tracks on Sunday March 4th, 2007 at approximately 5:00 am.  A Bergen Chief went on location with heavy smoke from a 2 story commercial structure and requested a second alarm.  As equipment was responding the fire was upgraded to heavy fire in a large warehouse type structure.  Fire departments from 3 counties responded including, but not limited to: Leroy, Stafford, Town of Batavia, Bryon, South Bryon, Caledonia, Mumford, Churchville, Brockport, and Chili.  Several other area departments provided stand by crews for the departments committed at the scene.

 

Controlled Burn - Alabama - Saturday - January 13th, 2007.

On Saturday January 13th the Alabama Fire Department conducted a live fire exercise in an old mobile home on Alleghany Rd in the Town of Alabama. A tanker shuttle was set up to supply water to a Port-a-tank at the scene. Departments assisting Alabama on that snowy morning were Oakfield, Indian Falls, and Shelby.  Story and photos by Jay Lynch.

 

Structure Fire - Pavilion - Tuesday - January 9th, 2007

The Pavilion and LeRoy Fire Departments were dispatched to a reported House Trailer Fire with a possiblity of a person trapped at 10321 Creek Road on Tuesday night January 9th, 2007 at approximately 11:00pm.  Pavilion 501 went on location with a fully involved house trailer fire and requested a second alarm.  Several Fire Departments from Genesee and Wyoming Counties were dispatched to the scene or to fill ins.  From Livingston County York responded with tankers to the scene but were re-routed to stand by at the Pavilion Fire Station.  Caledonia Fire Department filled in while LeRoy was at the fire.  Investigating the fire is the Genesee County Fire Coordinators Office.

 

House Fire - Alexander - Tuesday - January 9th, 2007

On Tuesday January 9th. the Alexander Fire Department was dispatched at 05:30am to a report of a structure fire at 10681 route 98 in the Town of Alexander. First unit on the scene reported smoke showing and requested a First Alarm. Crews from Attica, Bennington, Bethany, Darien and a FAST team from Town of Batavia were dispatched. Two women were transported to the Hospital for evaluation and one firefighter was treated for a hand injury.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.

MVA - Pavilion - Tuesday - October 31st, 2006

The Pavilion Fire Department along with a ALS Ambulance from the City of Batavia were dispatched to a reported Motorcycle vs Deer MVA on Rt 20, near the Livingston County Line, the morning of October 31st, 2006.  Responding equipment discovered a motorcyclist had hit a deer and had been thrown from his motorcycle. After being thrown from the motorcycle he the operator was then run over by a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction. The operator of that vehicle, was able to quickly stop a tractor trailer from running over the victim a second time.  Unfortunately, the victim died from his injuries at the scene.  Investigating the accident is the Genesee County Sheriff's Office.  Assisting with traffic control was the Livingston County Sheriff's Office.

 

Controlled Burn ~ Pavilion ~ Saturday ~ October 21st, 2006

Pavilion Fire Department conducted a controlled burn at 9820 South St. on Saturday morning October 21st. The object of the burn was an old barn that was in very close proximity to two adjacent structures. Hand lines and master streams were set up to protect the exposures. A 1000' of 5" LDH Supply line was laid from a hydrant as well as two port-a-tanks and a tanker shuttle.  Assisting Pavilion were Stafford, Bethany, York, Retsof, Caledonia with Wyoming and East Avon on Standby.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.

 

Controlled Burn - Pembroke ~ Indian Falls - Monday - September 25th, 2006

Pembroke and Indian Fall Fire Departments hosted a live burn drill on September 25th. A large Barn on County Line Rd in the Town of Pembroke was the object of the training exercise. Tankers shuttled water from nearby fire hydrants to two port-a-tanks that were set up at the scene of the drill.  Departments from Genesee and Erie County's that participated in the exercise with Pembroke and Indian Falls were Darien, Corfu, Crittenden and Akron.  Photos and story provided by Jay Lynch.

 

Controlled Burn - Pembroke ~ Indian Falls - Monday - September 18th, 2006

Pembroke and Indian Falls Fire Departments conducted a live burn exercise on an old run down house on County Line Rd in the Town of Pembroke. The Monday Night drill involved departments from Genesee and Erie County's. A tanker shuttle was set up to feed one Port-a-Tank at the scene.  Departments assisting Pembroke and Indian Falls were Corfu, Darien, Newstead, Akron and Crittenden.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 

Controlled Burn - Batavia - Monday - September 11th, 2006

The Town of Batavia Fire Department under the direction of Chief Paul Dibble conducted a controlled burn on Monday night September 11th.  The object of the burn was a barn on Pearl St. in the Town of Batavia. Approximately 1800' of LDH supply line was laid with a pumper at the hydrant  and one half way to the scene.  The long LDH line was laid so traffic on Pearl St. ( Rout 33 ) would not be interrupted.  The Towns Platform was set up to protect the house that was about 150' away from the barn.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 

Structure Fire - LeRoy - Friday - September 1st, 2006

On Friday September 1st. LeRoy Fire Department was dispatched to a fire alarm activation at Icon Design at 9 Lent Avenue in the Village.  Command reported a working fire and requested Bergen to the scene and Caledonia to stand by  in LeRoy.  LeRoy Volunteer Ambulance stood by at the scene of the Fire.  East Avon was requested to stand by in Caledonia.  Story and Photos by Jay Lynch.

 

Controlled Burn Drill - Bergen - Sunday - July 15th, 2006

On Saturday July 15th The Bergen Fire Department hosted a training exercise in an old house on West Bergen Rd in the Town of Bergen. The home at 7246 West Bergen Rd  was used for multiple interior fire fighting exercise throughout the morning. At the end of the interior evaluations a controlled burn was held. House Fire - Bethany - Geneseo Co. Tuesday June 21st, 2006

Bethany Fire Department this afternoon responded to a house fire at 5970 Rt 20 in the Town of Bethany. Departments assisting Bethany were Pavilion, Alexander, Stafford, LeRoy, Wyoming and Town Of Batavia on standby in Bethany.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch. 

 
Training Fire - Sunday June 4th, 2006 Bethany - Genesee County

On Sunday June 4th The Bethany Fire Department conducted a multi Department drill. Fire Departments from Genesee, Wyoming and Livingston county's participated in the live fire exercise at 10458 Francis Rd in the Town of Bethany. The object of the drill was a large Barn complex that has seen better days. A tanker shuttle was set up to supply four porta tanks as well as a supply line of 1500' LDH from a pond to the barn complex. Departments participating in the drill were  Bethany, Pavilion,  Alexander, Town of Batavia, Darien, South Byron, Elba, Wyoming, Attica, Gainesville, Wyoming Correctional and York.  Story and Photos provided by Jay Lynch.  

 

Haz Mat Drill - Bergen - Saturday - May 13th, 2006

On Saturday May 13th. The Bergen Fire Department conducted a Haz Mat  Drill at the Birds Eye Food plant in the Village. A simulated Chlorine gas leak was the scenario. Agencies involved in the drill were, Genesee County Emergency Management Haz Mat team, LeRoy and Churchville Fire Departments and the Birds Eye Foods Haz Mat team.  Story and photos provided by Jay Lynch.

 

 House Fire - LeRoy - Monday - May 1st, 2006

The LeRoy Fire Department and LeRoy Volunteer Ambulance were dispatched to a report of smoke coming from the windows next door to 39 Summit Street the morning of Monday May 1st, 2006.  LeRoy Police Department went on location reporting smoke from the structure at 37 Summit Street.  LeRoy Fire Department went on scene and reported a working fire.  Assisting LeRoy at the scene were the following fire departments: Caledonia, Bergen, and Pavilion.  Stafford filled in for LeRoy; East Avon filled in for Caledonia; and York and Retsof filled in for Pavilion.  Photos provided by Jay Lynch.
