History

The Genesee Valley Amateur Radio Association was formed on January 25th, 2009 at a meeting of local Amateur Radio Operators from Livingston and Wyoming Counties in Western NY.  Representatives from Monroe County were in attendance to give us some guidance on how to proceed with forming our club and provided information on ARES and RACES..  It was decided to hold our meeting on the fourth Sunday of each month at 6pm.  The meeting would be from 6pm to 7pm, a short break with refreshments, followed by a program for the evening.

The meeting was organized after the formation of the Livingston County Net started in September on the Groveland Repeater, 147.030 + PL 110.9 by Bill VanRemmen, KA2WFJ.  Bill Boyd, N3DSP, suggested the idea of the formation of an area club one night on the net.  Other Amateurs on the net thought it was a good idea.  A meeting location was established, a date was set, and the meeting was advertised to area Amateur Radio Operators.

The First Officers for the Association were;  President Billy Boyd, N3DSP; Vice President Bill VanRemmen, KA2WFJ; Secretary Tamara Sanders, KC2RET; and ARES Emergency Coordinator Mike Rink, W2HYP.
